The Doctoral Consortium is a forum in which Ph.D. students can meet and discuss their work with each other and a panel of experienced CSCW and Collaborative Technologies researchers. The Consortium itself will held all day Tuesday May 18.
We welcome applicants from a broad range of disciplines and approaches that inform CSCW, including anthropology, sociology, computer science, cognitive science, organizational studies, and related fields. We are particularly interested in applications from institutions and groups that have not traditionally been well-represented at past CSCW conferences.
Appropriate topics include:
• Analysis of collective practices or collaborative work
• Conceptual frameworks for understanding cooperative work or collective practices
• Guidelines for designing cooperative systems
• The influence of technologies (mobile Computing, ubiquitous computingÖ) on cooperation
• Expertise sharing and learning in cooperative work
• Communities and new forms of organization
• Innovative technological solutions and user interfaces
• Methods for participatory design of cooperative systems
• Applications for, and studies of, social networking (including studies of the use of Wikis, Blogs etc).
• Reports of usage experiences
Applicants should be Ph.D. students with an already well-established direction of research relevant to CSCW, and who would benefit from attendance at the Doctoral Consortium; preference will be given to students within 2 years of graduation.
The Consortium committee will select approximately 12 participants who will be expected to give short, informal presentations of their work during the Consortium, to be followed by extensive discussion.
Applicants should submit the following items (by email to
coop2010dc@utt.fr with the subject line ěCOOP2010 Consortium Submission.î):
A two-pages overview of your doctoral research that describes your research question, work in progress, and expected contributions. This overview should also include (1) a paragraph that articulates what you hope to get from attending the Doctoral Consortium, and (2) an abstract of no more than 100 words. This overview should be formatted according to the ACM SIGCHI Proceedings Template (two-column format, same as for papers).
A short (2-3 paragraph) biographical sketch, in PDF format
An up-to-date curriculum vita, in PDF format
Optionally, one publication as an indicator of your progress in your research, in PDF format.
The above items should be combined into one PDF file named YOURNAME_COOP2010.pdf (substitute your actual name where it reads YOURNAME).
An email letter from your supervisor sent to *, indicating that they support your application to the Consortium and that they agree that your research is at an appropriate stage for participation. These letters should also make reference to how you might benefit from the Doctoral Consortium and how they expect that you might benefit the other students in this group experience. The email should have ěCOOP Doctoral Consortium: î + YOUR NAMEî in the subject header.
Submissions should be made by email to coop2010dc@utt.fr with the subject line ěCOOP2010 Consortium Submission.î All questions can also be directed to this address.
All submissions must be received by the chairs by March, 5. Submissions received after this date will not be considered. All submissions will be acknowledged by email.
Funding: Registration will be paid for all doctoral Consortium participants. Unfortunately, we cannot cover hotel costs, travel, or other expenses.
